Abbas Helmy Center was established in 1998 with a donation from Dr. Hassan Abbas Helmy, a plot of land with an area of ​​7800 square meters to the Ministry of Health at the time, in order to allocate it as an addiction treatment center. Hassan Abbas Helmy established a building for outpatient clinics at his own expense on an area of ​​380 meters, and it included, in addition to the psychiatric clinic, non-psychiatric clinics such as orthopedics and internal medicine, and the average frequency at the time was 400 patients per month, and the follow-up of development in the center was neglected until it was included in the Secretariat The General Secretariat for Mental Health in late 2010 and was included in the plan of the General Secretariat for Mental Health.

The development of the Abbas Helmy Center for Psychotherapy and Addiction included the development of the outpatient clinic building to include adult psychiatric clinics, child psychiatric clinics, addiction clinics, geriatric clinics, and a day care center.

The administrative building, laboratories and pharmacy were also developed and opened, in addition to the construction of gardens and playgrounds

The official confirmed that the Abbas Helmy Center for Psychotherapy and Addiction will serve about 4 million people in a geographical area starting from Muharram Bey to Al-Ajami and the northern coast to Salloum.

Pointing out that the center's average frequency is 2500 patients per month for psychiatric and addiction clinics only, stressing that the center has graduated 45 recoveries for a period of 6 months, fully recovering from addiction.

The second phase of the development also targeted the construction of an indoor building for men with an area of ​​700 meters for the treatment of addiction for men, in addition to the construction of an indoor building for women with an area of ​​400 meters for the treatment of addiction for women, and the construction of a service building (laundry - kitchen).

Regarding the number of doctors, as there are only 2 doctors next to the hospital director, and she confirmed that the addiction treatment hotline will be contracted to attract doctors and join the center in the Egyptian fellowship program after establishing the internal departments.
