Faculty of Veterinary Medicine - Cairo University

Faculty of Veterinary Medicine - Cairo University is the first veterinary college established in Egypt and the history of the college dates back to 1927, when the first veterinary school was established in Egypt in the Rashid area (Wejh El Bahri).

The purpose of the school was to teach how to treat army horses and rice mill animals and at that time, there were ten students enrolled in the school and taught by two foreign teachers.

In 1831 the School of Veterinary Medicine moved from Rashid to Abu Zaabal in Qalyubia and then to Qasr Al-Aini in Giza in 1839 to be next to the Faculty of Medicine and since there were only French teachers at that time, the teaching was in French but there was an interpreter translating into Arabic.

In 1923, it was attached to the Ministry of Education, then to the Egyptian University in 1935, and it was named the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine since 1946.

As a result of the continuous development of the college departments and educational systems and the increase in the number of students and faculty, expansions of the college were established behind the farms of the College of Agriculture beginning in 1962 (new college buildings).

Ministerial Resolution No. 45 was issued to issue the internal regulations of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Cairo University for students in the credit-hours system to be applied to new first-year students starting from the 2000/2001 academic year.
